the world's a stage

now i know how it feels to be a teacher

We taught grade 2 students awhile ago in Inchican Public School. Actually, sections A and B were supposed to be together because they lack teachers. They were 79. They were too plenty so we divided them into two. 3 of us went to section be since they were plentier and 2 of our groupmates went to section A. After teaching them, all my energy went to the drain. Good thing it was on our last subject. Grade 2 section b were just so..so..so.. KULIT!. No one wanted to listen to us. We were already shouting at the top of our lungs but still it was as if we were talking to ourselves. There were even some who were doing cartwheel and dancing while we were supposed to be discussing. The next thing we knew, it was already time for us to go back to school. I swear 30 minutes is not enough. Just the whole process of making everyone keep quiet and settle down takes 20 minutes. We even "threatened" them with every single thing we can threaten them with. We told them things like: "'Pag di kayo tumahimik, wala kayong prize na candy!" and "Ang ayaw tumahimik, pwede na lumabas!" and "Ayaw niyo matuto?! Lumabas na ang ayaw matuto!". None of these seemed to work. They only kept quiet when they saw Kristine, Judith and I staring at them and they saw us really really mad. Then, we asked them to read the story we brought with us. Unfortunately, only one of them knew how to read well. Also, their comprehension is too low. I asked them who chased the mouse, they raised their hands, I called someone who answered me "one day!". That was actually the first two words of the story. Next time, we would be teaching them how to read simple words first. Some didn't know how to read said and should. Know what? It's now that I realize how lucky I am to actually study in a good school. It's also now that I appreciate our teachers. It's tough being one. Believe me, after experiencing the whole teaching thing awhile ago...I can say that our teachers are heroes.
